Land Rover Series IIA

1971 Land Rover SIIA
The 1971 Land Rover Series 2a was bought off ebay in November, an MOT failure due to severe corrosion of the chassis necessitates a full replacement of the chassis and numerous other components. I will update more on this vehicle and add more pictures soon.
Part 1 - Stripping Down
This vehicle is VERY rusty and stripping down has been carried out with a lot of input from the grinder and the chisel as many bolts and fixings were so badly corroded that nothing else could remove them. The roof and windscreen came off first and didnt provide too much resistance. Then the front wings could be removed.... after the birds nest of wiring.
The aim was to keep the Land Rover mobile for as long as possible so it could be easily moved around, therefore the next parts to come off were the back window, rear tub and finally the seatbox. The Bulkhead was then removed with the aid of a crane and was found to be very rusty... surprise and probably in need of replacement.
Finally the last few bits were removed including the engine and gearbox (more on these later), axles, suspension and brake pipes leaving us with a very rusty and by this time cur in half land rover chassis, shown in this picture next to its galvanized replacement sourced form Richards Chassis on good reviews.
